Just brought this guy home from the LFS after eyeing it for a few weeks :) his colors are looking great and his kok is really coming along! Would anyone know what strain of flowerhorn this one might be?!

Thanks! I see the big kok potential. Any advice on how I can maintain it that size or make it even bigger? I do frequent water changes and I'm still debating on what his diet should be

Protein and lots of it will make the kok grow.(I don't recommend only protein though I recommend a balance ) However I just recommend to feed a good pellet as a staple, krill for color, and occasionally supplement other things like mealworms, night crawlers, market shrimp. However some don't feed live foods. I feed mine mine grand sumo red and Hikari bio gold as a staple pellet. A mirror will also help with kok growth. Place a mirror on the side of the tank for a 3 minutes or so a few times a day it boosts testosterone which helps form the kok. In the end genetics also play a major role in the kok size. It appears yours also has a water kok which is desirable IMHO as the kok gets bigger than that of a hard kok

oh wow thanks for the advice. How is grand sumo? i'm still debating on what good pellets i should choose as a staple to his diet. Also do water koks stay big or would it get smaller as he grows?

Hard koks stay relatively the same size while water koks tend to get the biggest they also fluctuate in size more than hard koks. Water koks are what you want if you are looking for a big kok FH. And Grand sumo is a really good pellet in my opinion ,It does have lots of protein that's why I also incorporate some hikari bio gold on occasion. You don't want to overpower their system with protein because although it may help make the kok bigger it will also lead to a number of health concerns later in life like fatty liver disease etc...
