Good choice! IME flowerhorns are one of the most owner responsive fish in the hobby. Rather than trying to kill you while walking by the tank like a midas or dovii might, all of my fh's come right to the glass wagging their tails and bobbing their koks at the surface for treats

They can tolerate a wide range of water conditions but prefer a relatively high pH of 7.5-8.5 and temps around 78-82º F (mine are kept at 8.0 and 80). They are fairly messy eaters so good filtration is a must (high turnover, moderate flow), and a 55g will work for a juvie but 90+ would be better suited for a full grown adult pair.

As for the female, unless they grew up together I would suggest getting some egg crate from the hardware store to use as a temporary divider. See how they interact but keep the divider ready in case the male is too hard on the female (some lip locking is normal but if the female isn't ready to drop when the male is he can and will kill her overnight). Some males are great breeders and others are picky so it all depends on compatibility and patience.

Anyways congrats on your first fh and post some more pics when u get them settled in!

If your new to fh it is important to understand that they are much more selectable to disease. Keep good water and keep an eye on them because you should treat at 1st sign of sickness
