Hi.
Old hat at fishkeeping, but brand spanking new to Flowerhorns.

Got this little one today, a bit of an impulse buy. It was all alone in thew corner of the LFS, I saw it and boom had to grab it!

Would love a deeper ID on it, and a picture comparison of an adult of the same type. It is about 2.5inches right now.

Also I have a couple of questions:

1. Do the colors improve or dissapear with age?
2. At the moment it is in a 50gallon tank alone. Is this suitable?
3. Tank is well established (been running for around 9 months)
and is currently set at 28c at a p.h of around 6.8 with a blue background, some bogwood and rocks, ceramic hideout and standard black/grey/white gravel. This is temp, as I wish to scape the tank again soon, so any help on sand, rocks etc will be great. OK so far?

4. He has been in the tank alone for around 5 days now, and is swimming around as any fish should (quite active actually) but anything goes near the tank he will dart to the back and all his colors go very dark. Is this normal? I mean the rapid color change? How long before he serttles down a bit?

Chhers in advance for any help.

Here is a pic of the little beaut: (ignore the goldfish, they were just some snakehead feeders, gone now)

Yes they improve a lot as they mature.

2. At the moment it is in a 50gallon tank alone. Is this suitable?
Yes, as an adult most males will reach 10-12 inches. Adding other fish is fine at a small size, but not when the flowerhorn is fully grown.
OK so far?
Yes, they are very adaptable, fix up the tank how ever you like it.

4. He has been in the tank alone for around 5 days now, and is swimming around as any fish should (quite active actually) but anything goes near the tank he will dart to the back and all his colors go very dark. Is this normal? I mean the rapid color change? How long before he serttles down a bit?
Yes, it sounds pretty normal. If there is anything to hide behind, most fish will hide sometimes. If he hides all the time, that could indicate a problem. Color change is normal if trying to hide. He should be settled down quickly. If you don't like him hiding, then you need to set up the tank so that he can not do that.

Chhers in advance for any help.

I can't see the pic, can you repost it?
