My sister gave me a very nice 1 yr old 10 inch male flowerhorn a week ago. He will eventually go in my 300 with my other flowerhorns, but first I decided to quarantine him in my 55 till I can get rid of some of my ugly fish and make room. My 55 had been cycled for months and had goldfish in it to keep it going. I removed the goldfish, did a 75% water change and in he went. He wouldn't eat , and at first I didn't make a big deal of it since he had just been moved. Next I bought him some feeder goldfish and put them in. 2 or 3 eventually disappeared but that was it. I have now had him for 9 days and he still isn't eating. Just now when I got home from work I looked at him and I noticed little white spotts, almost small lumps on and around his head. He also doesn't look very good today, like he is sick, up until now he looked and acted fine. Please help, I really don't wan't this fish to die. Thanks, Lucas

Do you have pictures of the spots? Water parameters? What foods are you using aside from feeders? You need to avoid the use of feeders. You mentioned buying feeders. This could be one of the reasons why your flowerhorn failed to eat. New fish usually take a few days to become accustomed to its new environment so you need to be patient about it. They will usually take in meaty foods such as bloodworms. Failing that, smear them with garlic extracts to persuade the fish to eat.

Just tested water. Should have done that before I posted, nitrate at 40ppm:eek: gonna do a 50% waterchange right now and I think I will add some salt in case the white spots are parasites.

If they do look like grains of salt, then there is a possibility your case is ich. Raise temperature to 84-86 degrees Fahrenheit aside from adding salt. Treat for 14 days and in the meantime, try using garlic extracts if attempts to feed it is becoming slim.

performed a 75% water change and added salt. Will see what happens. I think the nitrate is probly from all the uneaten food on the bottom that is most likely rotting. Don't know what else to do though, I feel like I need to offer food every day at this point and hope he will take it. I left the feeders in with him, If they gave him something, he already has it, and they help with cleaning up the waste food.
