thanks for the advice what do u mean by paired i used to have them divided the kept knocking the divider down. so i said screw it and took the partition out. i really would like to see the female lay eggs i have slate rock in the tank for her to lay on... still no eggs the male beats her lightly. which makes me think they can get along? she just stays in the corner and will only move if food is offered. i really want to get into breeding the beautiful fish but it seems harder than they say can anyone help me. a step by step guide im on this site daily so i can do what is said and report right back
please help.

Yea it's like that in the begaining, but hang on in there and it will get better! I've been there but I got it now!! Let them stay in there together as long as he's not trying to kill her let them be and try the clay pot or dish, and leave them be!!

A nice trick is to drop the water temp slowly to around 78, after temp is stable fast them for 2-3 days and hold off on water changes for a few days longer than you normally would. Once fasting is completed do a 50% water change and bump temp up to 82+ and feed the **** out of them, this will stimulate them to spawn.
The male and female may not be accepting of each other though and they might not ever breed for you, fish like people wont spawn with just anyone. A new female might be required and if purchased, FHs seem to do best when the female is much much smaller than the male.
