I had this guy delivered this past Wednesday and he’s still very skittish and has stressed coloring. The water is good, temp is about 79f and ph is 7.6. All my other fish I buy online are settled by day two, three tops. He’s eating good and is active when he doesn’t know I’m in the room. I bought him from Tilapiastore. Is this typical for new flowerhorns? Can you tell male or female? The last pic is of one of this guys siblings, so I think the genes are good. Thanks for any good info.

I can also second that. I run my FH tanks a bit warmer than the norm and can fully agree mine have all enjoed warmer temps. They eat like mad in that warm water though. In regards to gender.... we can only speculate without venting on the FH. But I am a strong believer that males developed kok matter earlier than the girls. Hinting yours may be a girl. But that could be total toss..... vent is the only way with an FH. I also feel there is a difference in the physical construction of the kok. Where and how it is part of the head. But that's a huge subject and only speculation once again.

Some fish just can’t hang at first. He also could’ve been bullied for a while in shop. Just give him space and TLC, he’ll come around but try to be as unobtrusive as you can so he looks at you in a good light.

Thanks, I just checked the temp again and it’s 78.4, so I’ll try raising it over the next couple days. No biggie on the gender I was just curious

I think he/she was bullied some. The fins were a little tattered and there was a couple small scrapes on the head. They’ve already mostly healed up though .

That’s probably what’s keeping him unstable then. I had a 9” spider Kelberi take 4 weeks to color up from a nasty olive green and stop laying on the bottom because he was poorly housed in the shop. Just let them realize you = food and clean water and he’ll slowly come to you

Thanks, I’ll do that. I raised the temp as well. I think he might have been raised in a vat, so maybe that’s part of it too
