Hey I recently saved this girl ( pretty sure it’s a girl but I’m rookie so i have no idea, it’s bum hole kinda looks more “u” then “v” an google says that she’s female lol, short story it was in bucket with big larva growing on her an the lfs has been recovering her for the last week an a half before i took her home, I Dident do this the previous owner did

1. I’m going to be getting an aqua one external canister filter when my funds are better are i in a weeks, time but for the mean time I’ve covered it with two internal filters an two sponge filters, for water is fine but “he or she” seems to attack the sponge filters is that normal? I haven’t kept a flower horn before so just curious

2. How are are the scales going I think they look alright but I usually deal with Africans an other Americans cichlids so again I’m unsure

3. Any idea on her “combination” or what exactly she is, ( I know this can be hard so don’t stress i don’t planing on breeding or selling just curious)

4. Any tips would be greatly appreciated I know I’ll need a bigger tank with in the next 6 months but it’s 1000x better then when it was In, an no I don’t plan on adding tankmates

I'm not so sure your new fish is a FH. Research "Red Head"
Cichlid.

I thought that but, I’ve inquired at my lfs an the owner has told me there expensive an hard to get hold of, I’m not a expert but I’ve never seen them
An any lfs or local groups either but, I could be wrong, my lfs sells a lot of flowerhorns an there pretty good, I guess I’ll just have to see how the colours an if I get more of hum or “kok” u can’t really tell in that photo but it’s more rounded like a ball then a hump, I can’t upload the video for some reason ?

I live in Australia, that was another reason I thought it’s probably not an red head, pretty sure we class them as pests

Most Flowerhorns have red eyes, except the Kamfa variety, which can have several eye color combinations. Your fish is not Kamfa.
I own only one Flowerhorn, a female, which I've raised from 3/4 inch to nearly 5 inches. I'll post a pic as to compare physical traits. At first glance of your fish, my initial judgement was Red Head, or maybe even a Trimac, but it might just be a low quality FH. One way or another, still a nice looking fish.

I have been talking to a breeder on Facebook an he reckons it’s a f1 kamfa, Vieja base unfortunately I know nothing about his parents or past really I know he lived in a bucket uptill a week ago so that’s part of the reason his colours are so bad atm hopefully once he settles in an his colours come back I can clearly identify it, we thought about red head but it’s defiantly not a red head, I wish I could upload the video but it won’t let me upload, either way I’m happy

Thats exactly what he was was saying, his a local breeder an because of where of live (Australia ) there’s no import on these guys only private breeders, so while it’s not common, so it’s entirely possible it’s a gen 1, like I said though I’m no expert only relaying information

Who ever owned this fish before me is a loser I can’t believe they tortured this sick fish, I was kinda after one similar to the one (not sure if you who I’m talking you probably do ) diy tank has (Frank) but since I’ve found out their’s more to flower horns then simply buying a “ colourful “ one. Diet, lighting, water quality, back grounds ect all play a big part as well, I’m used to keeping semi-big cichlids I have Red Devils, blue Texas ect all of mine around the 7-9inch mark, but this guy is way bigger then anything I’ve ever kept his about 26-30cm so I’m really happy I saved this guy, plus at $40 I consider it a steal. Look forward having some fun with this guy definitely no tank mates but I can’t even get my hand in their to move the heater lol

At 40 thats a hell of a steal plus they have characters so you will enjoy that Flowerhorn. Knowing in Australia its hard to import fish. Bigger tanks and no black background.
