Hi all,

Just a question about my new flowerhorn.

She was shipped to me from Thailand and I live in Canada.

She arrived a week ago and she seems to be coloring up again already, but so far she hasn't shown any interest in food.
I have tried feeding frozen bloodworms, my own frozen diy food, flakes, and pellets.

How long should it typically take for her to feel comfortable enough to eat again?

Any suggestions/advice?

Thanks!

you could probly coax her to eat with an impatient pleco that eats at the top when fed and also you could throw some baby feeder guppies or some small live pan fish worms (you could buy from most fishing shops) in there for her to demolish

Almost all FH bred in Thailand are raised on blood worms. If your fish won't eat BW within 1 week you better seriously consider deworming that fish. I would have some metronidazole on hand as well, just in case. A healthy fish is a hungry fish & BW to a flowerhorn are like chum to a shark. Hopefully she's just still settling in to her new environment, but I have never seen a juvie FH pass on BW.

Thanks everyone :)

She has shown absolutely no interest in food - looks at it briefly when I put it in, but doesn't even take it in her mouth.

I have purchased some feeders which I have in their own tank for now, but I would only like to feed live as a last resort.
My first plan of attack is going to be to dose metro, I am going to dose both water as well as blended in food mixed with seachem focus - trying to entice her to eat.

Thanks again everyone for your input!

Will update!

Update:

I broke down and fed her some feeder fish, she went absolutely crazy for them. Unfortunately she now has ich.. I am treating with salt and raised temperature, should be under control shortly.

With regards to pellet and frozen food, I think she is eating them just not in front of me. She seems to be very timid still, hiding in her caves etc. when I walk by. I will work on acclimating her to me by spending time just sitting near her tank when doing homework etc. to get her used to me.

i wouldnt risk on feeding feeder fish except for a treat...
lol im having trouble on getting my new giant gourami on forming his territory.. he just avoids me everytime im near his tank.. he feed sinking pellets and chopped off worms for now..
btw any pics of this new flowerhorn of yours?
