I picked up a 75 for my bedroom to help keep my air moist, alot cooler than a stupid humidifier if you ask me lol. Had it set up cycling it with a bunch of $.26 comets for a month and a half while I decided what to put in it. I finally decided yesterday and I picked up a flowerhorn from petsmart yesterday. Anyone have any special tips for keeping a flowerhorn? This is my first, i've kept a ton of large fish in my day, this guy really has a good wet pet attitude and is already showing the remaining couple goldfish he is the king of the tank already. The flash makes his colors look dull in the pic. But you can kind of see the hump he already has starting on his head when he is only 2.5-3"

He may show better color with lighter gravel. Nls is a good staple, but variety is important. These guys are suceptible to desease, I recommend weekly water changes. Any specific questions ?

the color is great with the black gravel, my camera just sucks. i dont have any specific questions i was just wondering if anyone had any tips about them or if there were any differences about keeping them from the majority of other sa/ca cichlids. he has already killed the 3 comets, 1 each night since he has been in the tank. i got them out each time as soon as i woke up. he has a nasty disposition and is really enjoying his new home.

What he meant was, flowerhorns tend to blend in with their surroundings. That is why you see commercial breeders and sellers (check youtube) always keep these fish in light colored gravel...and bright colored gravel.

Mine is now 10cm and he to is in black color gravel, but thats only temporary since his tank is arriving on Thursday, and after 2 weeks or so, he will be there.

I plan on giving him (blue stick on background)... and blue/orange gravel... since those colors on him are very dominant...I would encourage him to maintain those.

I know the gravel idea sounds weird...but I have kept FH before, and gravel color effects some fish not ALL. :)
