Hello guys. Thought I would post a video of my Flowerhorn Max that I picked up yesterday. From what I can tell through a little research he is a ZZ male, but any other info would be appreciated. So here is the video. He has quite a bit of personality already. Thanks!

That bad huh? lol He seems to be settling in. I have him quarantined for now. He will be going in a 55 to grow out a bit then get a 75 to himself.

What is it about 3"? Looks to be a ZZ Red Dragon. Possible male looks to have a small nuchal hump on him. Feed a good staple pellet like NLS he'll appreciate it.

Looks good but I will take your word on type. My only question would be is that if he gets a 75 to himself, why wait to put him in it? Or is it not setup yet?

Thanks for the replies! I am currently feeding him Hikari Cichlid Gold and he seems to love it. I have thought about trying NLS but have not got around to it yet.
I have not found the right deal on a 75 yet so that is the reason he isn't going straight in. I figure that I have a month or so to pick one up.

I'd say he would be comfortable in a 55 until 7 inches or so.

Great info. Thank you very much. I have spent most of today perusing Craigslist.

flowerhorns are not restricted by their tank in growth...they may grow at a slower rate, but they can get ridiculously big in tight quarters. but yes, you should get ready to house him in a 75g. He can stay in a 55g for half a year easy.

edit: I'm not sure if that made sense, but flowerhorns grow big regardless of their tank size. They just reach peak slower in small tanks.

Made perfect sense. The faster you give them room, the faster they get bigger.
