New Fluval Filters G3 and G6

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Theres 3 things that turned me away when I first seen them. 1 not enough media, 2 Not enough GPH, and 3 WAY TOO EXPENSIVE.

im interested in them but not the price tag

Well if I were to use this as a filter i would have others with it but still. The price is insane, I could buy another large aquarium for that price.

IMO they are targeted at the same market as the iPod. People who are impressed by the flashy appearance, don't care about the price, and aren't savvy enough to know there are better options for much cheaper.

good point. every time I see them at the LFS I can't believe how small even the larger model is. yet is almost twice the price of an FX5..

i know there's one guy on this forum who owns one. cant remember his name but his avatar was the guy from the movie avatar sitting in front of his avatar.. lol yah ....i know.. we tend to remember the little details but nothing really helpful..

anyways, he said it was worth money, he loved it.

the thing is, I understand what High end products are all about. I love my toys just as much as the next guy.

but usually, when you spend top dollar for a product, you usually get maximum performance for it.

but when I saw the Fluval G6 sitting in the store, I have to question whether or not you are getting this for your money.

I mean, it is about the same size as a little Rena XP2 that costs 1/5th the amount and probably holds less media with less flow rate too.

are you paying for filtration perfomance or are you paying for the fact that it has probes built in?

to me, that is the issue that needs to be answered before we really know if this filter is worth the cash.

I just hope that aquarists will truly see the benefit in spending this kind of money on this filter. otherwise, you end up getting screwed.
