Seachem's flourite formerly was only in two forms. Red and standard. Recently released, three new forms of this great plant medium: Flourite dark, Flourite black, Flourite black sand. I got a small sample from work today fo the flourite dark, and it is considerably darker than the original flourite. Can't wait to see what the flourite black sand looks like. I'll be ordering a bag of it soon for my new 20 gallon revamped planted tank.

I have used Eco Complete, but I suspect high levels of Phosphorous in that product. The plants grew well for awhile, but the string algae soon took over.

Eco-complete is a good product, but I have found that it needs to be replaced far too often. I was replacing it once a year in one tank. Flourite seems to last at least 2-3 years.

I probably should have been using more light, CO2, and more water changes.

I had Flourite once as substrate to my old planted tank, it was a mess, the bag suggested not washing it of course. So I put some in the tank and poof. Red cloud water. After the tank stopped being a planted tank, moved in a butti and everytime he swam near the bottom clouds of red followed, not to mention it killed two power filters >.<

So finally removed it and replaced it with sand, the butti loves it, as do I.

As far as the flourite goes, was I using it incorrectly or something ? the amount of junk coming out was amazing, im sure it was full of nice nutrients and such but god !

I'd like to see pics of how dark this stuff really is, when you get it set up.

Your mech filtration is severely lacking.

I got a small sample pack of the dark stuff. It is really dark, the black, based on the picture, is truly black.

I just filled a 75 gal. with the new flourite black.(not the sand)

Huge disappointment for me. I have a black background and wanted a black substrate to bring out the colors of my fish and plants. Well unless you plan on mixing with reg. flourite I wouldn't suggest it. It has several white, brown, red, particles in it and it looks like uneaten food when in the aquarium.

I originally wanted 3M Colorquartz but the nearest warehouse was 4 hrs. away. Too far for substrate!

Just my 2 cents

It killed two AC 110 and a Whisper 60 that were on there, all the rock dust got stuck in it and it eventually stopped working.
