Before i brought the guy i did have them feed him, he ate two feeders right away. i really don't want to keep him on feeders so i tried the cichlid gold GREEN pellets which everyone in the tank eats and he juggled two in his mouth spit it out. the other fish gladly took them off his plate and he went back to his cove. is there anything else inexpensive that i can feed him or should i keep trying with the pellets he does acknowledge them and when its feeding time.

well i just did a second feeding and he still didnt eat his stomach is hallow from transportation so i need/want to feed him in fear of him starving and me being out of 150. should i dont want to do feeder all week and next think you know the whole community is on feeders. i might try to do frozen cube or large ghost or african shrimp only big enough for him to eat, what do you think?

How long have you had the frontosa? It may still be adjusting to its new surroundings. What was it fed at the place you acquired it from? (hopefully not feeders). If some type of flake or particular pellet then try feeding him the same stuff and gradually wean him off of it to the food of your choice.

You could try some mysis shrimp (assuming it's not kept with mbunas). Or attempt to feed it (and as a direct result, the tank mates) the same food it is currently rejecting every other day (example attempt to feed on monday, if it rejects it, fast the tank on tuesday and try again on wednesday, etc). Hunger will motivate it to accept the food in time. It's best to feed them food that will sink to their level than any floating stuff (some may be reluctant to venture towards the surface and by outcompeted by tank mates, while other fronts aren't afraid of venturing toward the top but may swallow air at the surface and contract 'the float').

When fully adjusted to the tank, frontosa's pretty much eat anything; I haven't found them to be too fussy. Mine eat NLS pellets, frozen mysis, krill, chopped raw shrimp, flakes, etc (not to mention fry born in the tank).

I wonder why they would ever feed frontosa feeders... that is strange... hope he eats for you ..you can also try frozen silversides just to get him going and fed.. and keep trying those pellets..it takes patience and consistence.. maybe try a different type of pellet too..mine also eat catfish pellets and algae wafer and sprulina wafers.. put one right in his cave and maybe it will tempt him after awhile.. he should be eating veggie matter as well as protein.Nice frontosa !

try soaking the pellets in a cup of water for a few minutes b4 you feed. This allows them to get a little soft and also sink. Buy a few market shrimp at the store and soak them in the cup if they are frozen. Like Mike said, garlic will stimulate app. as well.

ok brought the shrimp at the market and everyone got excited, i took it out after awhile cause looks to me the tank was getting a little foggy so i tested the ph and everything was fine but iunno about the market fish although he was eating

Anytime I ever get fish that eat feeders it takes them a few days to a week before they bother eating anything else. I switched some of my africans over from ghost shrimp/feeders to frozen blood worms then I mixed nls sinking pellets and shrimp sinking pellets in with the frozen blood worms and it worked pretty well everyone eats the sinking pellets only now. Only two of my fish have ever eaten off the top of the tank, most of them will only eat sinking foods.
