Just made a hop over here from aquaria central hoping to get some more info on Frontosa's. I'm starting a small colony and was looking for all of the information I can get to help me out. I'm starting with 5-6 approx 1" long babies and my plan is to start them in a 55 gallon and upgrade as they grow. I received my first two this morning and have them temporarily in a 10 gal. Until I can get everything finished on a setup for them. Since they are so small now I figure I have at least a few weeks that they can stay that way. I have more on order for next week. Anyway, I'm looking for any advice on these guys, favorite substrates, raising tips, etc. These are my first Frontosa's and I want to make sure I do it right. It would also be nice if anyone can tell which type they are, though I know the pictures are bad. Turns out its really hard to get good pictures of tiny fish LOLBaby Front.JPGBaby Front1.JPGBaby Front2.JPG

Cool they grow fast their first uear so feed them well! They slow down after 5-6 inches. Got my frontosa mpimbwes growing. Most of them are ruler measured at 2" and only had them for a month. They are 3 months old.

Sorry if I post this pic late but here are tge frontosas. Finally patience has paid off. After strict diet of new life spectrum cichlid formula and spirulina (read it really helps with mooning to bring out pigments), 50 50 zoo med bulb, keeping up with water changes they are finally very blue. Mooning is almost completely gone in all of them. No split bars no defects nothing. i find moimbwes more susceptible to mooning and split bars. Even in white sand they look stunning and will get better in darker substrate. Hope you enjoy my F1 frontosa mpimbwes! Good luck with yours too!
