I get home last night from the lfs with two synodotis catfish fry. I am all excited, new fish for my 220 african tank. I put the little cuties in the tank and wham bam thank you for the feeders mam!!!

So I was a little distraught, $10 bucks for barely a snack. I am sure that this has happened to others out there. How do you guys add fry to a tank without the fishes becoming food?

Make sure the fry are way larger than any mouth in the tank

research in to what you are buying would have told you this. its a good lesson learnt the hard way. when you by a fish like your africans all the sites that have info on them will explain that they will eat anything they can fit in the mouth.

Bummer, If you try again use a small grow out tank to get them big enough not to be eaten.

i add fish diffrently because i add feeders through the top my fish know the feeders or som type of food but a new fish that i get i float then take out of bag with hand and add my self with hand and my fish seem to know they are not feeders.

Wow this would never work with my fishes. If it fits, it's swallowed...simple. I use growout tanks and move the fish when they are a decent size.

I had that happened to me before, but it were my frontosas. :( They were eatened by my Jardini. I thought it would be okay to have them together since my jar never ate anything else in tank even fishes that were smaller than the frontosas that i brought home. But the next morning they were no where to be found. They had become feeders.

well i wasnt talking fish smaller then mouth well maby a little small then mouth but it works for me i put a 4 inch fish in my tank and its about 6 inch now but ben living beside a 17 inch long eel for a long time without geting eaten

fish can become very teritoil and can tolliate fish all ready with them as they know hey are not food, but as soon as you interduce new fish, the older ons think they are going to be a threat. sorry for your loss. P.S most of these words are spelt wrong, lol
