I just wonder what does people do after having a fry and taking care of them for a year and a half?

sell them or give them away to a store? ....guarantee that soon they will die...

when i saw a fry on my tank i took away the big fish and decided to keep them...it was fascinating to see them growing...now they are all around 4 to 5 inches each one.

I have around 60 midas fish and they are ok now in the 150 gal tank...they dont fight too much...i supose because they all grew up together.... soon im going to put them on a 700 gal tank....

but i just wonder...im not a guy that sell fish and i dont like to sell or give away a fish that im not sure that the person its taking it, its going to take a good care of the fish... I supose most of the normal aquarist that have a fry they just leave them on the tank and wait a big fish eat them...or sell them with the knowledge that a fish that can be outstanding and beautiful it going to die in the middle of the road...

there are not a lot of people out there that have at least 60 gal tank and have the experience and the commitment to take care of them....

At the begining I gave away half of the fry to a store and after a few days i returned to the store asking where they keep the fry and surprise....no one took care of them and they all die....

I have this fish since they were born and only 1 died of an accident that was my fault..... all the other ones are in perfect condition and i never saw any dissease or anything... they are fine...

Anyway I have a big tank...but i dont know for how long i will be able to keep 60 midas cichlids on a 700 gal tank...

If they have a fry again i supose i will have to wait that they go to the mouth of a big fish....

Any comments on your experience.....

usaually you can go around to LFS and sell a few specimens at a time, since you don't want to keep all of the clutch, sell low, and you just might be able to always make extra cash getting rid of fish that you don't want anyhow.

after a 1 1/2 years they are probably pretty big now. I would thing a fish store would want them if they are nice looking and are in demand. I do not think that they would want 60 of them. You have supply. The question is: Is there demand? perhaps a year ago, or even a year and a half ago, you should have asked the question, what am I going to do with 60 big fish. I do not know if they are even too big for someone to want as feeders for a monster fish. I would continue to ask around. (that is what I did) good luck.

:welcome:

Welcome to MFK. We don't have many people here from Mexico. How about give some away as gifts to anyone who shows interest in your fish tank. A gift of a nice fish is a good way to get younger people interested in the hobby. You can also sell them individually to anyone local that likes fish. Since you are willing to take care of them for a while longer, take your time parting with them.

I'd like to see some pics of that 700 gallon. I bet that is awesome!!!
