I paid $10 for this guy. It was listed as a G. surinamensis, but I'm not too confident in that i.d. I'm thinking it's an abalios. He's about 6-6.5" right now. Any opinions on species?

Here are a couple extra pics of my TSN that were on the memory card and came out decent. He's about 10" now.

Cant help you on the id, but i know its not a surrinamus as the tend not to have that much green on them... but nice fish any how :D

Damn i like the Geo a lot. Good pickup for only 10$. I dont think its Surinamensis, but a picture out of the bag will help everyone try and clarify that much more. It could be what you said.

Take a look at this site for identifying an ID, its definitely not the best but site but it kind of gives you a good idea.

Hope it helps, Good luck.

Thanks for the link. Yeah, his colors are definately washed out a bit in that pic. I'm going to try to get a couple decent pics in a day or two once he settles in a bit. Hopefully he'll be colored back up and be easier to i.d.

I was pretty pumped to find him in the store though. Nobody ever really trades in bigger fish to this place, other than oscars, and they sold this guy for a couple bucks cheaper than what I paid for my three other juvies at about 2 inches.

Without seeing this fish in the tank , just by the dark spot on its side and its reddish eyes it is Geophagus abalios:D
