Need some advice MFK members: I checked out a LFS in Lakewood CA. called Strickly Fish. It's a pretty nice store with a good variety. I picked up 3 Geo. Tapajos Orange Heads last night and put them in my 50 gallon. They are doing pretty well as they are eating and sifting like pigs. Take a look at the pictures as I do not see any orange on their heads. They're only at one inch so does this develope later? Also, these fish will be going in a 115 gallon in about a month and I want to put a smaller grade of sand for them to sift. What type of sand would you suggest that is safe for them?

One last thing: I noticed the Geo Surnimensis was bullying the orange heads a bit so I rearranged the tank and this helped. When I turned off the light last night I noticed all 3 oranged heads swarmed the Surnimensis for security and would not leave him/her alone. This morning the Surnimensis seems to be guarding them as he/she is chasing the other fish. These fish are fasinating! Any advice would be welcome.

Current stock:

1 Geo. Surnimensis 4'
1 Gold Severum 4'
4 Rosaline sharks 3'
8 Corys (2 panda, 2 green, 2 juli, 2 albino)
3 Clown Loaches 3'
3 Geo. Tapajos orange head

Tank: 50 gallon
Filter: Rena XP3

I use pool filter sand with my orange heads. it is great stuff, minimal to no cleaning to put in the tank. Small grain size, mine sift all day long happily. The color on their head will show up as they relax in the tank and get a bit older. Nice pick up!

Thanks for the reply! I am assuming I can get the pool filter sand at Lowe's, Home Depot?

From what I heard they don't color up until 3-4", so yours are perfectly normal.

Pool filter sand works great - very easy to wash (bucket and garden hose) and cheap too. I got it from Home Depot.

Thanks for the reply! Outstanding....Home Depot is right around the corner.

Hi.. I just picked up 6 baby orangeheads from Ed about a week ago and it has become an addiction... I strongly suggest the pool filter sand. I use it in all my tanks.. It looks good, the fish love sifting thru it and it's inexpensive. If your home depot doesn't have it, you can also get it at Ace Hardware..
I have my guys in a 120 4x2x2 and am using 2 xp3s so when you upgrade you probably gonna want to add another filter..
Are you planning on getting more roselines... they are really nice as are the geos.. Good luck with your tank and more pics please after you move them into the bigger tank.. Sue:D
