new giant gourami not looking so good

I bought a 1in giant gourami today 1.99 that looks like it has bloat and cloudy eye the guy at the store said to give it metronidazole for him, but have alot more questions..do i still feed him,is there anything else i should add to water.I want to give him a chance of being great someday,but the fish store guy said its a long shot.
