Just set this up in living room it's looking great we ordered some fry from frontosa factory. BTW they shipped great and the fish came perfect all acclimated perfect, props to Anthony Tu on that. Anyways we had previously got 5 from cichlid exchange and now the three that are still alive are all mooning and this one paticularly is the oddest. (It'll be the only singled out picture of a fish) his band is not over his eye but yet doubled up on tail it's quite odd. I guess i'm wondering has anyone had a 7 bar mpimbwe or is this fishes genetics just shot. Also the fish are 10. F1 mpimbwe blue 1 inch (from frontfactory) . And 3 2 inch f1 mpimbwe blue ( from CE)

Lol, I bounce back and forth as well. Mpimbwe seem very prone to mooning and while it is not considered desirable it occurs in wild caught fish as well. If it was me I'd not keep any fish with mooning or odd stripes if the intent was to breed them. However as pets, if they are good looking otherwise I wouldn't worry about it.

Planning on breeding definetly but for what I've read they arnt even ready to start breeding till their 3. So I figured I'd hold onto the three that are mooning until there about at that age. We want to get a wild caught stud eventually to be our main breeder but that's hoping he pairs with one of them.

Mooning - sometimes the mooning will disappear when they get bigger. I bought F1 Kitumba Frys and 1 of them had mooning. When she reached 3", mooning disappeared. Females will start breeding at around 2 years old, whereas males will take longer. But if you are planning to acquire a WC male, then likely you will get one that will be mature enough.

Just curious why the wc male? Just for the genetic diversity? F1s x wc will still be f2s. Regardless they are nice looking fish, as well as, your set up.

Thanks and yeah for diversity. Plus there's just something about having a wild caught I love. I dunno if we found the right f1 it wouldn't make a difference to me lol

Very nice, they'll be huge before you know it. Mpimbwe were my first Cyohotilapia and are special to me.
