Today I bought a 3" gold JD amd has no pattern to it really at all. Very slight.blue to the lower jaw. How do you guys sex gold JD at this size?

we guess! seriously i think as the JD settles in you will be able to see irridescence,patterns to get a better idea.
 
I was told you sex them like the regular jds...blue beard is female...ive been looking for these with little to no luck

Same as standard JD's - they get more blue on the gill plate and it is just harder to see. This one looks female to me, but hard to say from the photo. Gold JD's are so hard to take good pictures of.
 
I'm leaning towards female too... I just got one as well from a segrest shipment to my store. Where did you get yours? Maybe siblings? Lol

Mine is a hefty 3" male, pink belly, some blue spangling. He's got an attitude! He gets a little defensive if I get too close to the tank, lol. I plan on breeding him with an ebjd.

Keep updating yours, I'd like to see how the two grow!

I have this one with much larger cichlids and it does absolutely fine, even holding its ground to my growout red devils and grammode. Really strong feeding response. Im going to wait a little while and find a normal nice looking male if this is a female. Its hard to tell in the pics but there is a blue lining lower jaw, just not really anything else on the body. I bought it at Trop for 4.99 labeled with the pink convicts they didnt know what they had its 4 times bigger and you can tell its a JD it was a trade in. He looked at it and said I dont know what this so it looks like a 4.99 to me. Whats a normal price for gold JD at this size?

I have 2 gold/pink jds but I think both of mine are male no blue on the jaw at all...one is 1.5 inchs and 1 is 1 inch...paid 7.99 each...they hold their own in an aggressive community tank I have all around the same size maybe .5 to 1 inch bigger
