New gold jag / Midas from COTA

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Both look nice. Sorry if this is a dumb question but is the Midas pure. I've never bought anything from Cota so I'm interested.

Thanks, pretty excited about them both.

This is my first order from him, I always ordered from Rapps in the past. Everything I read about him was good and these are “F1 with parents from Lake Arenal”.

Ok thanks, hard to get any pure Midas now, even though I like hybrids sometimes I wish Cichlids didn't hybridize as easily just you could actually go to a store and pick up a pure Midas/red devil.

Update:

I had initially placed the Midas into my community 125 while I was finishing getting his solo 125 ready. Once I got him in there next day he became very very shy. It’s been a few days now, I can’t get him to eat and he retreats into his clay tunnel every time I come near the tank. Kind of surprised considering everything you read about these fish being so outgoing - assuming it’s just an acclimation thing. Would like him to eat though - he wouldn’t even go for a live worm! Lol. Adding a background and Beamsworks LED and more filtration to his setup in coming days, ordered and on the way. Any Midas keepers have suggestions? Trying to keep it somewhat minimalist in there since they move/destroy everything that they can.

The jag is eating just fine and has integrated better than I’d hoped into a 125 gal with an Oscar, JD, chocolate cichlid, pleco. I think the fact that the JD is a bit of a maniac has helped there. Jag will get moved to solo digs of his own eventually, I know the 125 is too small. Will keep an eye on that situation closely he may go off at some point. Right now he seems to be 3rd in the pecking order surprisingly.

Give him a few days. Stress from the move plus the new tank. He was used to the darkness of the old tank, new one is a lot brighter with the tan rocks and no background. I am sure after a few days he will settle in.

Yeah, that’s what i was thinking. He was only in the darker setup for a day but he got shipped and then has been in two setups in the span of a few days. Background should be here today according to tracking. Should I use the black or the blue side? Decisions
