New Goliath ATF

I keep my Goliath in a 210g with just one tank mate...a False Tigrnius.....the Goliath ignores the bottom feeder. I'm tempted to add others, however I paid $130 for my Goliath and don't want to spoil his home by forcing him to share it. I don't think there are many compatible tank mates and that the Goliath is best kept in a "species" tank.

Nice, would love to add one with my VATF but doubt it would work.
 
My Goliath will only feed at night. Prefers feeders that "disappear" overnight; I have never seen him eat ! He also eats the tails off crayfish....I put some "blue" crayfish with him thinking he would not bother them....boy I was wrong...they are one of his favorite treats. He mutilates anything (fish) that are larger than he is...eats the back 1/3 of the body & lets the other LIVE 2/3 of the fish float around in what has to be agony. So far he ignores my False Tigrinus , but I suspect he will take a chunk out of the Tigurius at anytime. The GTF definitely is a "species only" fish. They are live feeders...I don't doubt the difficulty in getting them to accept anything else. It's against their nature to do so.
 
It is against their nature but it doesn't mean it can't be done. I've had pretty easy results with VATF but the GATFs are much more difficult. IME they are much more stubborn to train off live. But mine has taken some blood worms and massivore pellets. They still prefer live but between starving to death and non live food they will convert.
 
I have the same size GATF. 11"-12". eats pellets. I have small silver dollars and geos with him as tankmates and he doesnt mind. everybody's getting along. The GATF will eat anything that fits their mouth. If you wanna train him to eat pellets. You need to starve him and put him with some fishes that eat pellets. He will eventually understand that pellet is food and he will follow his tankmates.
