Heya all,

I had an account on here a few years ago but I lost my login info. So anyways, I'm not new to keeping monsters but I traded them in for....oranda goldfish. I know. Dumb right? So now of course I am tired of those and missing my red tail cat badly. So the other day I bought a young fire eel. And now I have the joy of trying to get it to eat! Silly me, I bought beef heart and now see that bloodworms are THE thing. And tonight I picked up a new heater for my 80 gallon and forgot the dang bloodworms!!! I'm keeping it in my 80 gallon and within the year I am moving and will be buying an 150g+ tank, I hope to find a used 200 gallon. So I'm back, and I have a baby monster :) I did a ton of reading on these guys and look forward to chatting around these forums, getting to know others and learning more about fire eels!

Blackworms... not bloodworms... bloodworms will stunt them due to nutrient defficencies. once hes about 10"+ start cutting up nightcrawlers to add and try pieces of meaty foods like fish, krill, ect. My guy currently has gone from about 5" to 10" in about 4 monthes now being fed 1/4lb of blackworms in his tank once a week ( this gives him and his tankmates 24/7 access to them w/ a day or two of really working the sand for them or a purge day.) few more inches and he'll go into our pool to replace the M. dayii we lost a few weeks ago to a nasty infection =( spineys are touchy about water quality ect. Much as clown loaches are.. also be wary of IPs.

GL and WB... wonderful fish to own. :)

Nice pick up. I grabbed one a couple weeks ago, but it was more impulsive than most of my fish purchases. At first he would only eat bloodworms, but now he greedily devours pieces of raw shrimp with the rest of his tank mates. Good luck with the little guy!

Thank you for the advice! Is beef heart still okay? Now I'll try to find some blackworms. He eats a lot of bloodworms atm!

Raw shrimp, earthworms, krill, mussels, squid, pollock, codfish, and any high nutrient pellets it will take. Other fish fillet are fine too, just too many to list. (You can stuff pellets into some of the other foods if they aren't taken directly.)

I wouldn't feed beef heat or anything else from mammal or bird source.

I am so sad to find out there are no earthworms in the compost bin. I guess I let it get too dry. :( Thank you I will take a trip to the market tomorrow and buy some fresh seafood and give it all a try! I'll have to keep my compost bin wet and pickup some earthworms at the tackle shop and start a new colony. *cheers*
