I just got this grammodes. Can anyone tell me if this is a male or female? I know it might be too small but I am new to these cichlids. Colors are kind of washed as well.
Above is a female, note the linear striations on the face.
Now below a male, the face is adorned with tiny spots, instead of lines, except the one directly below the eye.
Below a shot of a female guarding eggs.
She has the Linear markings, and also note her more sharply pointed, torpedo shaped profile compared to a male below.
I tried to edit your pics to get a closer look at the facial marking, but because they are not closeup enough, the markings blurred out.
You can easily sex them quite early by the red pattern on their belly. This often works before they develop a clear facial pattern..
When the red forms a net on the belly it's a female.
So your fish should be a female.
