I moved my tanks and got them setup and running. I bought new gravel for my 40 long that houses my juvie fh, red devil, and a striped rafael. I went with a 25# bag of white and a 25# bag of blue. Looks awesome! The fish seem to like it alot as the previous substrate was coarse natural gravel. It took an hour and twenty minutes to rinse the the gravel clean so they better like it! I have a large living room now so all my tanks are in it instead of in my sons bedroom where they can't get used to people being around the tank. Hope it makes them more outgoing. Heres a pic from my phone of it as it is now.

Thanks, they do like the gravel, and the fact I took the mayan cichlid and former tank bully out and put him in another tank. I would think 25 lbs. of gravel would suffice for your 25 gal. Sorry, I don't know what that converts to in Kg's.

one 50 lb bag of sand was more than enough for a solid 2 inches of sand in my 55

You don't want a solid 2" of sand unless you have fish that are sifting up your tank constantly. With that much sand you're going to get a lot of gasses building up under the sand which are harmful to your fish.

Wow! Fh's color is really coming in now that I moved the mayan and changed the gravel! Only problem is it chases the smaller rd around like Wiley coyote chases the roadrunner. Still don't know what kind of fh I have. I took some pics with my camera I will post soon to see if anyone can tell me.

Can't wait for pics. If you want your flowerhorn to thrive I'd say remove the tank mates and you'll probably be surprised how much he will improve. I say get red of the red devil even though they are one of my favorite fish, hence the name camphilophus but they won't live peacefully and those are 2 fish that get big you might not want to deal with later.
