I've had this lyonsi for a few weeks now, he's about 4-5" TL and I can't wait for him to get bigger. He eats like a pig and seems to have grown a bit already since I bought him. Has colored up a lot as well.

He has this 33g long (same footprint as 55) all to himself. The 20long on the bottom contains a few dithers a tiny Neetroplus. I will be moving in the summer and plan on housing both these fish together in my 5' 80g with some dithers in a Costa Rica biotope setup.

The neet was too quick and small for me to get a good picture, will update soon if I can snag a decent one.

I never new about these guys (still new to cichlids) but if yourss is the same kind as the picture i linked I am jelly. That red eye is killer! You can see the color coming into his tail too.

Nice to have the tank to himself!

wow look at this male

stunning species!

Thanks, yeah those are both stunning individuals. I have high hopes for this guy, might eventually get him a female and breed them. They are extinct in the wild so perpetuating the species is a pretty good cause

Loss of habitat, I believe. They are supposed to be extinct, but I wouldn't be all that surprised if a wild population was found still, that tends to happen. Either way they are a rare, endangered fish

A little update, he's around 6" now and putting on some body bulk as well as getting some nice colors. Not a great picture but you get the idea

And here's the little neet, a lot of personality already at around an inch.

Planning on ordering some Panamensis this week to grow out, I'm hoping the neet will share the 20 long for a while

Nice, I got some panamensis from the wet spot about a month ago. Growing nicely and getting great color already.
