I just wanted to introduce myself. Just got my first ray. He's amazing pretty sure he is acclimating to the tank still it's been 2 days and hasn't ate. Sifts through the sand but that's it. He did eat at the store and he is really active. I have him in a 75g tank and he is about 6" diameter. If anyone has any tips they would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tested the water? Does he have tankmates? Was the tank cycled? and what food are you using? Post a pic if you can

The water is normal the tank has been up and running for six months I am feeding it cut white fish. He was eating goldfish at the store. And no tankmates not sure what to put in with it. I can't post pictures yet cause I don't have 5 post

Ok fair. I'm jack. Just moves to fort benning. I'm in the military and have a huge passion for aquatic life. I have a 30 gallon planted tank with a small Oscar and several tetras. Also (for now) a 75 gallon that is housing my "teacup" sting ray that my daughter has named Mr. Ray. I plan on building a tank for him that is 6' L 2' W and 18" D.

Hi Qtip, me too jz gotten my rays 2 days ago n still haven't shaken off the excitement.

However, right now I truly appreciate the most common advice given in this forum: water/filter management.
My tank was fully cycled but jz after 2 days, I tested that ammonia/ nitrite/ nitrate showed positive reading. I jz added another 5 kg of biohome n beneficial bacteria yesterday to boost up my system.

Imho, perhaps u do a simple test on the water?

My rays ate mp right after 3 min into tank n still feeding n moving actively.... Touch wood, touch wood...

Last but not least, congrats on your new pet.....:)

If the water is good and he was eating goldfish at the store, then it may take a little while before you can lean him off the feeders so try some blackworms or ghost shrimp he may just want some live foods rather than the white fish. and tank mates if your interested in putting any in would be some type of calm swimming non agressive fish. I have 3 silver dollars a spotted gar and a black ghost with my teacup. So if any of those catch your eye I think theyd make great tankmates for your ray.

hello and welcome to MFK. if the ray was eating feeders, try getting him to eat something. a fat ray on a bad diet is better than a skinny ray not eating IMO. first see if he will take any worms like bloodworms or blackworm or even chopped worms.
