As the title stated, I recently changed around my 75 gallon grow-out aquarium to feature a hardscape that was modeled after Aquarium Design Group (ADG) and the Iwagumi style. This hardscape was put together using whatever rocks and driftwood that I had on hand, so it's not exactly what I was going for, but I think that it looks pretty good when my limited materials are taken into consideration.

I'm not exactly sure what kind of rock the rock is, but I think that it might be sandstone. The driftwood is crab apple (Malus spp.) which is supposed to be fish-safe and hold up pretty well underwater. The wood was stripped of its bark and sanded before I prepared it (soaked, boiled, etc.), but it has yet to become fully waterlogged and is held down the the rock.

I'm considering adding plants, but I want it to be low maintenance, so I'm not 100% sure about doing that. I was also thinking adding some more rock once I find some good smaller pieces. I'm not sure if I want to keep this kind of driftwood or not, but I do want to get a branch/root type piece to add to the mix and maybe also add some more stick type pieces. I also want to get better lighting since the current standard fluorescent lighting gives photographs of the aquarium a yellow tint. Eventually, I'm going to replace the current stock with a small shoal of piranhas, so I'm hoping to make the hardscape accentuate both the current inhabitants as well as the future ones.

Any other suggestions?

I like the rock, however the driftwood is not doing it for me. It looks like you just gathered some straight sticks from your yard and put them in. Ive also seen all the ADG videos, and I know what your trying to go for. It is hard to do what he does without the amazing pieces of driftwood he gets! Keep searching for a better driftwood piece, and that tank will look pretty good, goodluck and keep me/us updated!

The rock looks nice :headbang2
But the driftwood can be better. It looks too plain.
I think it will be nice if you can get few more branches and arrange them together.

Thanks!

Looks great! I'd add some beefier driftwood, but overall I love your setup. Nice work!

Alright, cool, I'm glad that everyone likes the rock! I should be able to get a few smaller ones that will compliment it nicely.

I definitely agree that better driftwood is needed. I made these pieces from what started as some really good branches of crab apple, but they ended up getting reduced to what they are now after trimming and bark removal. I should have taken a picture of what these pieces looked like before I prepared them; there were many more branches to them which ultimately had to be removed for various reasons (rot, accidental breakage, etc.). What I really want is to get a decent root ball for in there to replace the current driftwood; that will be similar to some of the ADG stuff that I've seen.
