I have a small heater in my 125 and it seems to be working ok but I'd like to supplement that with a nicer one that can give me more control over tank temperature. Any recommendations?

I have a finnex 300w titanium heater with temp controller for couple years now with good results.

I am partial to the Visi-Therm but the Aqueon's have been more reliable.

I have Eheim Jager heaters on all of my tanks and I'm very happy with them.

first off every tank should have 2 heaters IMHO, like filters redundancy a good thing in case one takes a dump on you, to keep a your tank and what temp you want esp if running 2, get a tank temp controller, the heaters plug into that and has a probe in the tank, heaters set on high, the monitor will turn both heaters on and maintain the tank temp and shut them off at what ever temp you want your tank at.

Hello; I agree with the use of two heaters in a tank and use them.

A question about heaters. I have the type that hang on the rim of a tank and have had them for many years. My question is are these types still commercially available? I have not really shopped but do not recall seeing any lately in catelogues or shops.
I sometimes do have to file the thermostat points flat from time to time. (Much like using a points file on an auto distributor.) ( I bet many on this forum do not know what this reference is about.)

These old fashioned heaters must have been good as they have survived many years. Note- the ones that failed are in the trash and several did not last long.

I'm for sure using two. I want a second to supplement the first. And I don't know, mine are long and hang on the rim as well.
