i ahve my heater set at 76 right now and its hot in my room and the temp is at 84 and my heater light never comes on so do i have a faulty heater? its a aqueon or whatever 200 watts and its in my sump at the moment. so should i look into a new heater??

Get an accurate thermometer for your tank.

well it is the heater that was malfunintioning. gotta get a new heater. will my fish be alright for a week at no less then 70 degrees or can i just run my heater tell i go to bed then unplug it when it reaches 86? throughout the night it will get down to 78 when i wake up if i unplug the heater at night. and i just sold my wagon to my aunt for 50 bucks so that i can get a new heater so is this a good brand?

Temp changes in humans will make us sick, I can't imagine it being good for fish. My 75 ran without a heater for a few months, just staying at ambient room temp. I would think that a steady cooler temp is better than frequent temp changes.

Just my opinion.

being short on plugs in my fishroom two 55's and a 25 are without heat. They also house my smallest fish. They get as cold as 68-70 but usually stay around 70-74. The thermostat is set at 72 and I have encountered no problems. Several batches of grow-outs have went through these tanks and are doing fine. You should be ok
