Hey all, im Jonny and just looking for a forum to help me out with my tank. I had a 10g with several fish, but they soon out grew it, so i bought a 55g a few months ago. I had it running for a few months moved, had to leave it behind, but they didnt take care of it, and when i saw what it looked like, i had to take it with me, just cleaned the whole tank this sat, the play sand was black!!! water was green!!

Moved it, im now using Black Diamond sand blasting sand, looks really nice, got about 7 live plants, nice decor and several fish.

1 sucker fish
3 small cory cats
2 electric chiclids
1 large shrimp
1 small fiddler crab
1 gold fish

Now when i bought the tank new, it came with a Top Fin 60 HOB filter, and it was noisy as hell, so i bought a Marineland Penguin 350 HOB and it was much quieter. But the water sometimes would seem to fog up, so i decided to use both filters now that i moved the tank, to ensure clean water, so i have both of them running now, and just dealing with the noise.

Any comments or suggestions would be great!!!

Im thinking about getting a canister filter, but i dont have much money, and not sure which ones are good.

Welcome to MFK Jonny.

I use the AquaClear HOB filters myself. The canister filters can get pricey indeed, your best bet would be to look on Craigslist.com in your area for a good deal, or on the classified here. I've thought about canister filters myself, but from what I've read the AquaClear HOB filters work best if you're not gonna use a canister filter. If you still decide to go the canister route, I'm sure in the "setup and filtration" section of the forum you'll find many threads about different filters pros/cons.

I'm sure someone will chime in soon and direct you to which canister filters are best and which are crap.
