Hi All, I'm new to this site and I'm starting up a 55gal FW. I know, that isn't so big compared to some of the tanks I've read about here, but I have to start somewhere.I'm really excited about it, but I'm still doing my research to see what I can put in it before I get started. I want to make sure I do it right the first time. Everyone here is so knowledgeable, I know I'll get some great information. Thanks in advance!

Hi Red Devil, I'm not sure what kind of fish yet....I was thinking maybe parrot or king kong parrot. I know there are some cichlid fans who don't like the parrots, and some who even think they shouldn't be bred at all. I think they are beautiful and everyone who has them say they have such great personalities. But like I said I'm not sure yet. I'm still in the planning stage. I do have some questions though. I've read about doing a fishless cycle, but haven't found the answer I'm looking for. I don't want to harm any fish with a regular cycle so, I think that's what I want to do, but I don't know if I can do it before I get my filter. Is that a stupid question? I'm getting a filter from my FIL so I wont get it until next week or later. I wanted to start the cycle as soon as possible. (so, sooner the fish!!) Also, can plants and snails go through the cycle or will it kill them? I have a 110 gal stocktank outside with plants, japanese trapdoor snails and goldfish. It's right outside my kitchen window and i love to watch it. I even love to do the maintenance...it's a zen thing. I guess those are my questions....for now! I hope I haven't been too annoying with my newbie questions. Thanks so much for the warm welcome! Everyone here seems so helpful and it is really appreciated!

You have some quality questions that would be best answered if you do a thread in General Aquaria forum and also you can get loads of info in Set-UP and Fitration forum... so please visit those forums and not only help yourself to knowledge but also help teach others... best of luck with it all!!
