Hey everyone. Glad to be here and this is my first post. I'm 28, from South Arkansas. Wife and I love the fish hobby. We've both had them since we were small. There isn't a fish community whatsoever down here, so other than a few people here and there, we're pretty much alone in the hobby.

Currently we have 4 tanks:
20g quarantine/rcs
29g tiger barb
55g community
55g discus

We are selling our 2 55s and 29 along with some of the fish. We will be keeping 2 of our Emperor 400 filters.

We plan on getting a 120g, either a 48 or 60" length. Would love a 72" 125 But we don't have the room for it.

It will have the following stock:
10 discus
GBR pair
25 Cardinals
25 Rummy Nose
10 Cory Cats
5 Angelicus Loaches
Amano shrimp
Deciding on 2 BN plecos, or nerite snails for algae.

Pool filter sand for substrate, driftwood, Amazon sword, water sprite, Java Fern for plants. Excel/flourish/root tabs for dosing.

I'll be running 2 Emperor 400s, and a Sunsun canister for filtration. 300w heater.

For lighting we'll have a 48" Finnex Planted Plus 24/7.

How does this sound? Any other stuff I should consider as far as equipment? I think I have everything down, just waiting to find a good deal on a tank, or sell my stuff later after Christmas. Just want to have a plan ready for when it happens. Any comments/ideas are welcomed. Thanks!

Think I'll be keeping my 200w heater on one of my 55s just so I have 2 in case one fails.

After Angelicus Loaches, I'd also like to move back to another set of clown loaches, but I think a discus tank plus being a 120 is probably too small?

Well, you probably know, discus get 10"...just like angels...I have seen a dozen that big om my lifetime, but nontheless..seems a little many...but if you have very good filtration. ...idk...it would look amazing for sure.
As far as the loaches, they stay low and out of the way....you would be fine with them.

Welcome!
Never had Amano shrimp nor A. loaches before but this could be an issue....loaches eating shrimp?

They killed every rcs I put in the tank. Nothing has bothered my amanos.

Here's current tanks but ditching all except the 20 for the 120.

Change of plans. Looks like we may now be going with a regular 125, 72x18x21.

We looked at a 120 and 125 today side by side. We have a heavy duty table built in our utility room by my wife's office where we were gonna put the 120, and we're pretty sure it'll hold. It's built into the wall on the back and right side. The middle and left side front are reinforced with 2 2x4s.

Surely with the weight distribution it will work. The thing is definitely solid and looks way more stable than the stands we have any tank on at the moment.

There's a 125 at our local lfs with a stand for $700. It has 2 overflows and what looks to be a sump system included. I'm not sure if the system is built into the stand, but he may will do a straight trade on our tanks and fish for just the tank and filtration. I've never used anything except for hobs so this will be a huge new thing for me. Dp you even need hobs or a canister for this?

As for lighting, will 2 36" Finnex planted plus 24/7s be too much, or would our current 48" finnex planted plus work? My wife's not to keen on there being dark sides.

I think the longer tank will be better for the fish we want.

For real, nice looking tank. If I were you I'd go even bigger and get a 220. For a couple hundred more you could get the tank you will probably end up buying in 5 years anyway. Save the regret, you know? Check the marketplace on here too, maybe somebody is trying to unload a monster tank you could get your hands on for less. Also I think you can find the weight of a full tank of any size with a good internet search. After you do have however many friends it takes to equal and surpass that weight stand on your proposed stand. Not very scientific but a good trial could never hurt. Good luck to you both.
