Hey everyone! Just wanted to introduce myself. I recently purchased a small red-belliled piranha. I thought about throwing a snail in there to help keep the tank clean. Is that a good idea or will it be eaten? This is my first piranha. I also have 3 oscars (in a seperate tank). Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to MFK! Cant suggest anything for Piranha's but as far as the Oscars go, the bigger the tank, filter, the better.

Thanks!!! The 3 oscars are in a 75 gal tank. I have a magnum 350 canister filter and a bio-wheel 150.

If it gets really hungry it might but mine never have, and if you can a shoal of reds is always better than one Good luck and welcome

I only have a 40 gal for the piranha. Will three be okay in such a small tank??

Hiya Klynne99, welcome to MFK, IMO 3 red bellied piranha are a bit much for a 40g but some strains stay a bit smaller than others topping out around 9",
any nattereri should be good in a 40g until they reach about 6" each but it depends on the style tank,
I think that if you have one of the 36"x 18"x 13"tall style you could keep 3 adult rbps, if you have one that is longer but narrower then no.
I have never had them bother snails.
