Hey all,
I've had my jaguar cichlid since it was about 2 inches or so, and now it is at least double that. Needless to say, it started causing problems in the 40 gallon long I have been keeping it in. It was beginning to terrorize my juvenile red terror... that's a problem. So I moved all of my African Cichlids out of their 55 Gallon tank and into a bigger one (which they needed anyway) and figured that my Jag could have their old tank until it potentially outgrows it (not sure if it's a male or female jag yet...).
The coolest thing happened after the move, ever since I got this Jag, it has been kept with a much larger JD cichlid, and as a result, the Jag has had an almost jet black complexion like I've never seen before. It did make me a bit anxious of course, especially because I could not find any existing threads regarding this issue. But the jag had a monster appetite for literally almost anything I put in the tank and was super active so I figured it was fine. Turns out that the coloration most probably had to do with the dominant/submissive relationship btwn my JD and my Jag. At any rate, I included a before and after comparison for you all. The first picture is of the jag in the old tank, and the last two are it in the new one, forgive the 'merky' water, I did a substrate change as well and it fogged the water up, the jag probably prefers it I bet...
As a side note, I decided to attempt to give my jag tank mates in the form of my two astonishingly strong willed syno. cats. I'm still not sure how it's going to turn out, but no one is injuring anyone else so far. They seem to be content just giving each other a good bump here and there for now lol Will definitely have to keep an eye on it as the Jag grows. Any thoughts/insights are welcome and appreciated! Thanks.
