So our water heater was on its last leg and needed to be replaced. Today after the new heater was installed I noticed the water smelled like that "new" smell. When I do water changes on my tanks I use alittle hot water to make sure the new water is about the same temp as the tank water. My question is, is it safe to use my hot water? I smell it and I am worried that it might harm my fish. If I have to wait how long till I can do water changes? Thanks!

we had a new water heater installed into our house when we bought it this winter... didn't have an issue but also didn't notice a smell.. if I was worried I'd say with normal hot water use a week would be plenty of time to flush your system if not less? Or just run your hot water until it gets cold to flush it once... waste of water and energy to heat it ect.. but peace of mind for me is priceless..

Yeah that's true I'd rather waste alittle water on flushing the heater than having some sick or even dead fish. I think I'm gonna use my large Rubbermaid for now till the smell kind of subsides. Better safe than sorry thanks for replying.
