Hello,
I have a 20 gallon Long critter cage and was wondering if it could hold water long term for my shelldwelling cichlids? Because then I could move my 5" green sunfish from its 10g to the 30g so he will have more swimming space. I have filled the critter cage for more than 24 hours with no leaks to the top, so in theory, it should be able to hold water thats only 3/4 full because the fish that will live in there are bottom dwelling cichlids right?
Im about to start the move so please respond quick. Thank You!

Can it hold water without silicone? Does a Petsmart or Petco have silicone? Walmart, Home Depot?

walmart has some loc-tite silicone

Do i even need silicone because the pressure of 20 gallons is not that much and 20 gallon tanks dont have or need any bracing.

sorry guys i didnt want to risk it because its going to be upstairs in my room on carpet and i need the tank setup soon b/c i have a 5-6" green sunfish in a 10 gallon tank and i want to get him in a more appropriate sized home asap.

The critter cages use thinner glass than tanks do. That's the only worry. I used a 10 gallon for years with no problem. It's not an issue of sealing it, they are sealed just like a normal fishtank, just watch out for the thinner glass.

thats interesting to know. i thought the reason they said not intended to hold water on the packaging was because they weren't sealed to hold water, but to hold sand or mulch or the likes.
