Hey all, I'm reading my golden Dorado for a scomb tomorrow, I know the guy has had it a good few months. It's been eating live shrimp and guppy's.
Are they still so susceptible to random death? Any tips or fresh info, I read db's feeding guide and the sticky, everything still applicable?
Here he is...

Once they hit 12inches they seem to die off. DB’s guise should still work.

Silvers getting dropeye is preventable by : having proper tank size and by providing a insect diet.

Notes on scombs:
This fish likes current and tannins, personally I think this fish needs cooler temps at least periodically, like what one gets in rivers from rainwater, but that's just my theory

Do have to disagree here as everything is still theories. In my one experience my silver caught some slight dropeye after hitting the kid really hard at about 14" or so inches. That's when I got my artc who wiped my stock clean besides the leporinus.

As far as OP agree with kno4te. I feel like it was more or less after 2 years they'd die. Not 12"... though they can get to 12" don't think anyone has been able to get them there in captivity. Same way we can't get armatus over 2' in the states atleast. We haven't figured the payaras out I suppose.

Cheers, I will give it a shot. As much as I love the Dorado I'm not willing to make them a proper home which is a shame. They were a trade with full intentions of moving them on solving my aggressive pike issue.
Almost fate i bought a pair of convicts yesterday before this was arranged so if they breed like I'm expecting there will be a supply of food for him.

Just a wee update, had him for a week and traded him in at a LFS for credit. Not up for all the headache after all.
