this is my new hystrix i mainly want to know what to do with the shedding of the stingers and i want to know if its a true hystrix.

Stingers shed about every 4-5 months. I collect them asap when they shed.

How do I know it sheds is is there a sign or difference with it? And I got him at a fish store by me called county critters there like an aquarium that sells fish its awesome
there will be 2 stingers. it will be easy to tell. Then when it sheds net it out and start your collection. nice ray and congrats.
ok thanks guys also I heard of boiling it to remove the protein is it suggested... i mean im not going to go trying to stab my self with it after but still should just in case someone grabs it not knowing what it is?
You shouldn't need to boil it. just grab it out of there and dry it out. Great looking histrix. They are my favorite rays to keep for sure.
Ok, and thanks hystrix are awesome rays but why are they called porcupine ray... I mean all stingrays have the a barb
