As the title says, I came across this controller while researching Inkbird probes for another thread. This unit can handle 1800 W for those of you that have larger tanks that require larger heaters.

This controller can actually accept two probes that can be either temperature or humidity. I’m not sure how the two probes function, but it could be possible that this one unit could control two tanks that were side by side.

If anyone has one of these, do you mind giving some insight on it?

Hey Travis, I bought a inkbird and decided I can use it with a 1000 watt JBJ heater I have where the digital controller broke. I bought the 308 model and tested the heater with the inkbird in a 5 gallon bucket. Works like a charm. Now I can return my garbage Eheim 300 watt heater.

Just wondering your opinion on this if it's safe to do this? No worries if you don't have any experience on the JBJ just thought I'd double check.

In an ideal situation, you would have both the internal thermostat on the heater working and the thermostat on the controller working so that if one failed, the other would keep your tank from overheating. However, I have never heard of an Inkbird controller failing in the on position and cooking the tank. In addition, the controller has a high alarm that you can set so that it will start beeping if the temperature gets too high. In my opinion, I think you’re ok to use it as you’ve mentioned as long as you keep an eye on it and set the high temp alarm a few degrees above the set temp.

What size tank are you using the 1000 W heater for?

That makes perfect sense. I'm using this monster heater on a 125 gallon. Alarm is set. This inkbird is great product thanks for the intro to it

In that case, I would highly recommend you get a smaller heater. That heater is 3-4 time to large. Even with the alarm set, that 1000 W heater could easily cook that tank in just a few hours. If you’re not there to hear the alarm, then it does you no good.

I recommend getting a 200-300 W heater to replace it. My last heater purchase was two 300 W ViaAqua heaters from Amazon. They were around $15 each at the time and have worked out great so far.

Yeah you're definitely right about that. Nice this never came up in my search on Amazon! Good reviews. What size tank do you have them on and what temperature?

My tank is in the basement in the Chicago area so it's fairly cold in terms of room temperature. I wonder if these two heaters would have to work over time to heat the 125.

Looks like the price jumped up to $21.20 on Amazon now.

My tank is a 220 with a 55 gallon sump. Probably a total of about 260 gallons of water volume. It’s in my house which I keep at 69 degrees. I keep the tank at about 80 degrees.

If I were you, I’d get a 300 W and a 150 W. Use the 300 and if it’s not up to the task, add the 150 to it.

Oh wow these are powerful heaters then! All right sounds like a solid plan.

By the way I'm close to buying inkbird 608 but will use for space heater temp controls.

That sounds great. Please make sure to come back and update this thread with your experience with the 608. I’m definitely interested in hearing how it works out.
