New Jaguar cat.....

Finally found a nice jaguar cat. Healthy 5". I got him on Saturday. Currently in a 150g. (5x2). I have a bunch of driftwood branches in there with two similar sized cichla. I did as much research as i could on these guys bit there isnt a whole lot out there. I lowered my temp to 78. Ph is right around 7. He has been more active then expected. He has been cruising around the tank multiple times a day. I can't get him to eat yet. I was told he was eating pellets before. I provided massivore as well as cut shrimp. Maybe i am worrying for no reason and just needs to settle in. Thoughts?

Nice! Looks to be oncinus. Probably needs to settle in. Ime when they do settle in they'll not be seen much in the day, come out to cruise for food in the night. Although J jaws7777 had a group that was quite active all times of the day it seemed.

Word to the wise, i lost mine when he pried off a fitting and got stuck in my filter intake. They will jam and wedge into places with all the force they can muster. Be wary of exposed heaters in the tank.

Beautiful catfish! Yes, give your fish sometime to settle in. I hear they also like bloodworms.

Time and patience. Mine take pellets and cut up fish/shrimp.

Probably looking for a place to hide soon.

Be cautious with the pbass as if it fits in their mouth then there goes the jag cat. At 5in it’ll have some girth but it’ll be slow growing from this point on.

Beautiful fish! I have a 7-8" one. Never see it. Always in a pipe cave. Check the tank at night with all lights off and you will likely see it eat. Cichla might outcompete for food during day too, night time feeding might work better.

Thanks! Cichla shouldnt be a issue they only eat shrimp and earth worms. Maybe ill try blood worms

Great fish. Give him somewhere dark woody and tight to spend much of his time and feeding should come quickly.

One question I have (only closely related but very important) just for meds, etc. As this always confused me and I see it a lot
Is 5x2x2 = 150 us gal?
I am in UK and 5x2x2 = 125 gal
