I got my JD's about a year and a half ago, while i got the Festae about 9 months ago. I got 4 JD's at first and then these 2 paired off and started laying eggs so I got rid of the other 2. They haven't layed any eggs since the Festae has been in there which I'm ok with. The Festae shot up real fast since I got her at 1" she is a pig. She is about 1/2" to 1" bigger than the JD's but the dad JD is still definitely the big boss of the tank. Although they randomly chase each other or nip at each other there hasn't been any fights yet which is awesome.

Here's the big daddy:

Oh and I've heard that festae only get meaner the older and bigger they get. Does anyone know if there is any truth to that?
yes, there is truth to that. They are one of the most aggressive cichlids out there once they reach maturity...

I just found some Neetroplus nematopus at my local fish store. I've always kind of wanted one or a few of these guys. Would they be compatible with my current stock of 1 female festae, 1 male JD, 1 female JD, and a common pleco in a 90 gallon tank? And if so how many do you think?

Hard to say if Neets would upset the balance of the tank or not. I know they can be nasty as all get out and a breeding pair will want the entire bottom of the tank all to themselves - as most breeding cichlids do. On the flipside they don't get very big making them more vulnerable to large cichlid attacks. If I were gonna try this adventure I'd make sure I had a backup plan - ie; another tank to put the Neets in if things start goin' south. BTW nice Female Festae and breeding pair of Dempsey's.
