ok so one of my wifes coworkers is getting a JD with a tank set up. now keep in mind i have no idea how big this fish is but the guy dosnt want him he just wants the tank so we are taking this fish in so it has a good home to go to.

how big do they get?
will it go with my 2 bichirs 7.5" and 5"?
what ind of water peramiters do i need?
what kind of food/feeders?

thanks for the info

how big do they get? Around 7-10"

will it go with my 2 bichirs 7.5" and 5"? It should be fine, most JDs I have seen with bichirs just ignore them, but I would keep and eye out for him harassing them.

what ind of water peramiters do i need? Normal perams. 6-8 ph, 72-80 temp. They are pretty hardy fish.

what kind of food/feeders? Frozen foods, fresh seafood, Pellets, and from what I've experienced, they go crazy for the Large FD krill. They will take most feeders, just qt them.

good luck!

my jd did mostly fine with my bichir what is the tank size? the only issue mine had was they were in a 29gal tank too small i know my jd was around 5-6 inches bichir little bigger but the tank didnt have much room for both but in a bigger tank i would see no problem

males grow faster then females but they still grow slow. Males will get to around 10''-12'' after a few years, Females will get around 8'' after many years.

most JDs aren't too aggressive and can be kept with other fish just fine some can be more aggressive and will need tank mates of similar aggression levels

my senegal bichir grew up with my JD no problems just give them room and there own cave. some male JDs might be to aggressive most could be kept with bichirs females also will usually work with bichirs

How ever JDs will grow a good sett of chompers and could harm a bichir while the chance of them liveing together is good things could still go wrong and you should have a back up plan if the JD doesn't like the bichir

there going in to a 50G so there should be enough room for them to get along just fine. as for feeders ill use what my FH gets nice fat guppys

The JD should be fine with your Bichirs. Even my breeding pair don't bother my Del and allow him free access to their area of tank.
