I just picked up my jd yesterday I was told he was male, he doesn't have much blue/colour on his gill plates and has pointed flowing fins but seems to have a really washed out colour. he has hiding places good water quality with a ph of 6.5-7. I have been feeding him hikari cichlid bio gold+ but need suggestions on how to bring out the colours that made me want a jd in the first place:D

feed a quality pellter like Hikari Gold, provide him with hiding places etc - dim the lighting maybe?

Male JDs lose the spangling on bottom of the gill plates and head, so i def sound like yours is male. Expecialyl with the long flowing fins... does yours have a quite prominent red line along the length of his Dorsal?

yes the red is really vibrant but thin

less than 24 hours lol I guess I am just being impatient

yeah...just give um' time to settle in, then he'll be aright.

I'm going to the petstore today and was wondering what would be another good cichlid to keep with my jack in a 55g, would a green terror or severum be a good choice, would like all suggestions
