Should post this in the set up/filtration section but i need answers from people with big tanks and rays. Anyone any experience of this pump? 8000 ltr sump pump. Thinking of using 2 on a 8x4x2 tank, one on each return.
Thanks

i am also setting up a tank of 1600 liters and i rueld this pump out. I am pumping 1.2m head height from my sump back to the tank so i think this pump would strugle to manage 400lt an hour but i have never used this pump before. I am thinking more along the lines of either 2 aqua medic eco runner 1200ltph pump (150watt each) or a single red devil 1450gph (65 watt) i think that skimping on a pump now would be a bad idea especialy when it comes to big messy fish such as rays because you dont want any nasty dead spots in your new tank or i dont any way. I am still keen to hear from other people in reguards to what pump they use on simalar size tanks.

Check out the Laguna Max-Flo lineup of pumps. I found them to provide the most flow per watt for the price. They run quiet and seem to be well made. I've only had mine running for a few months, but I am happy with it so far. I am using their largest model. If you are interested, the performance chart can be found here: http://www.azponds.com/laguna_maxflo_chart.htm

They are marketed as a pond pump and come with a cage to prevent clogging, but you can remove them from the cage if it's too bulky to fit in your sump.

PS- Did you mean Red Dragon pump? I've never heard of Red Devil pumps.

Spend the money and buy a good pump. longer life and power savings will more than cover the added upfront cost. that being said i ran my 480g with a reeflo hammerhead gold. never worry about dead spots

Hi
Not sure i understand your logic of going from a 8000ltr pump to a 1200ltr pump?
I will be pumping 1.4 mtr of head so you have concerned me now, i will have to look into them again. There are better pumps out there for sure but i want to use two sump pumps so at least i have a back up if one fails. I also like the idea of them being internal to the sump to save on extra holes and leaking chances on the sump.
If i need more movement in the tank i have a BIG eheim power head i am going to use plus a eheim sump pump i am going to use to power a pressurised bio filter. So i am happy on filtration side of things just still not 100% on what pumps?

Sorry not 1200 i mean 12000 my mistake. I am trying not to have extra equiptment like power heads in the tank if i can help it they look ugly.

Seems like massive turnover to me, are you sure you need this much?

Hi Toby

Are you reffering to me or the guy talking about a 12000 ltr pump?
I am looking to use two 8000 ltr pumps on a 1600 ltr tank. This gives me 10 times turnover an hour which as far as i understand is what you should be aiming for in a ray tank.
