This is the third successful spawning. Each one has increased in number of fry that survive. The first produced about 75 fry, the second produced about 125 fry, the third produced over 200 fry. The previous fry are getting big fast.
I'm leaving this group of fry with the parents a little longer than I usually do. There are so many, it's interesting to watch the parents interaction with the fry.
im pretty sure you have a pure strain of Hemichromis bimaculatus, i know some of the people who actually help name a rename, west african cichlids when there found, so ill ask and get back to you, either way nice fish.
i was worng, i sent them too a expert i know and he wrote back"These pics depict the Nigerian from of H. cristatus", congrats thats a hard fish too find
Thanks for checking into the strain of fish that I have. The fry are all growing well. Unfortunately, the male has developed a cloudy eye, possibly fungus. Currently treating the pair with Melafix and Pimafix. I'm hoping that is all the treatment that will be necessary.
