I currently have 3 geophagus jurupari growing out in my 90g tank, along with a herotilapia multispinosa (rainbow cichlid) and a bunch of other small fish.
I decided I wanted to create a larger school of jurupari, so I picked up a group of 4 from my lfs about 2 weeks ago. They're looking really good in my 10g quarantine right now.
The rainbow cichlid I picked up about 3-4 weeks ago at a different lfs. After about 2 days, I was wishing I had picked up a couple more of them, but I didn't have a chance to go back to the lfs until yesterday. To my surprise they still had about 12-15 of them in stock (same group, I think), so I checked to see if any were looking particularly nice. I immediately noticed that 2 of them had obviously paired off, as they were vigorously defending a flat rock, and the supposed female was cleaning it repeatedly, and had a swollen stomach. I got that pair, plus a third that I'm not sure is male or female.
They are also in the 10g quarantine for at least a week or two. I'm hoping that the two will remain a pair once I transfer them into the 90g, and hopefully the other two will either form a pair or turn out to be females, that I have a 1:3 group. At any rate they are lovely cichlids and I can't get enough of them!
Anyways, enough rambling, here are the pics. Sorry for the crappy quality, all i have is a point and shoot, and a 10g QT tank isn't the best for snapping pics of stressed out fish...
