New koi pond (questions)

I'm thinking about starting a pond around my deck in my backyard, thinking about estimating 16 -20 feet running along my deck and Atleast 4-5 feet wide and 5 feet deep. Can you guys give me some general information? I've never had a pond and I want to know:
Water filtration to use?
Do you need water conditioner? (Like wise to fish tanks)
What other fish can I put in there other than koi? ( located upstate NY)
Any other advise will help

Yes koiphen is all about koi and have alot of great ideas for the diy guy. Questions like liner, mud,concrete. All below ground, partly above ground. planting no planting. This will be some things to look at. So most will be up to you. You can put native fish in as long as its not illigal in your state.
