bellevue, ne
im looking at getting a satellite compact fluorescent with two lunar lights. ive never seen what a lunar light looks like. i know that i need the extra bulbs to promote my live plants to grow well. does anyone have one of these types of hoods? and is it worth 100-120 bucks to buy it?

You don't need lunar lights for planted tanks. I use lights in the 6700K range, and plenty of them during the day. I paid 50 for each one that I got.

I just bought that exact same hood. It got delivered friday. It is bright. Makes my tank glow. I got the 48 inch 130 watt with two lunar lights. The lunar lights are kinda cool but i was expecting them to be a little bit brighter than they are. You cant really see your fish under them you can just see shapes moving and they dont cover the whole tank. The light is concentrated to the center. The cf bulbs are really bright though. I am happy with my purchase. I just got some new plants this weekend. i will let you know how they do.

thanks
Ryan

Same here.

I had the 130 watt, with one Lunar, it was pretty cool, you can see things going on in the tank if you get up to it. If you want to watch from a distance, not for you, go with a red light.
